ABOUT THE POWER OF BLACK STORIES
The Power of Black Stories is an ongoing multimedia storytelling project and book publication dedicated to honoring, preserving, and amplifying the lived experiences of Black individuals.
Rooted in both visual and narrative practices, the project weaves together photography, film, and documentary to create a layered and evolving body of work. Community members are invited to submit and share their own stories, contributing to a collective archive that reflects the depth, complexity, and beauty of Black life.
Alongside these open submissions, a select group of individuals will be photographed and documented more intimately. Drawing from both submitted stories and direct collaboration, the work will continue to grow across print and digital platforms. Every story will be honored and shared, whether through publication, social media, or other forms of presentation, ensuring each voice finds a place within the project. The visual language of the project is grounded in a photojournalistic approach, while also allowing space for ethereal, expressive imagery.
As the project expands, its phases will center on sustained storytelling, building a long-lasting archive
that continues to document, uplift, and preserve Black voices over time.
This project is broken down into three phases.
The community phase that invites the wider community to share their stories includes the option to upload a personal image, whether from childhood, adolescence, or the present. These images may carry a more personal feel and will be used across social media, the publication, and as part of an ongoing archive of our existence.
